Window Views #9

Hey Everybody, it's Window Views time again! Welcome!

I scanned (600 dpi) this photo of our summer place long ago. Those windows looked out on beautiful Peach Lake, near Brewster, N.Y. The house was located on the lake and my Dad owned a speed boat to take us 'round the lake.

We had a small dock that you couldn't dive from but that we could sit on and watch the sun go down.

Photobucket

There was no air-conditioning and an outside bathroom (in the back of the attached garage that you can't see in this picture). The car in the driveway is a gold Chevy Impala with a black Landau top.

The antenna on top of the house had to be that high to get good TV reception (I guess).

Ah, dose were da days! :)

So what are you posting for today's Window Views? Don't forget to sign Mr. Linky and leave a comment.

If you are new to Window Views let us know and we'll make every effort to visit you!

The colours reminded me of Grandma's older house in the Catskills. Ah memories again! and who needed a/c when you've got all that cool water to swim in, yes? Too, love the stone-work chimney( wot I can see of it ).

And no inside loo? Mrs. Smith( across the way ) still used the out-house( the house had never been upgraded for anything modern, 'til she passed on ) and I grew up using them. I wish I had snaps of her house!

Wow. A Landau roof? I haven't seen one of those in a while! For that matter, when's the last time you saw a vinyl roof?

I have sort of a similar place in my memory, an aunt's house that sat on Bogue Sound. With a dock that you also couldn't dive from (even at high tide!). Didn't like the uncle so much, but they had a cool house.

That antenna probably receives all the cable channels there is!

The breeze from around that area should be cool enough even w/o a/c :)

Hmmm ... one of these days I'll get my timing right. I signed the old Mr. Linky yesterday and visited as many sites as possible. Hope you don't mind that I'm signing in here a day later. I guess this is a Wednesday to Tuesday thing, right?
Hugs and blessings,

I just returned from a weekend visit to a cabin very much like this one. It had to be just as old and the only updates were to move the bathroom indoors and add a large deck across the front.

I had forgotten how restful and beautiful a place could be. No wonder my brother is always at the lake.

Oh those were the days for sure. What a great photo and very cool that the car is there to speak to the decade this was taken in :0)
Love it...

Oh what a perfect lake house! I'd like to be there right now, just sitting by the water. Our old summer cabins are long gone - they were very primitive but oh, I loved them!!

Everything about this charming photo reminds me of the good old days: a slower, more gentle time when people had time to sniff the roses.
The fact that it an old photo you scanned, with muted colours and clarity all add to the nostalgia.
What lovely memories it must induce.

yeah, those were the good old days. We didn't have a summer place. My dad was a wildlife biologist, we had a trailer that we pulled from ridge to ridge as he did his classification work. It was a great way to grow up, tromping the ranges of the Rocky Mountains.

Your house must be very bright with all those windows. I like bright houses. It's also high up, so it must be warm.
