Window Views and doors too

Young Walt Whitman Singing
Alexander Calder, c. 1935

Plaster model submitted by Alexander Calder to a competition held in New York City.

The sculpture is placed in front of the window of the Walt Whitman birthplace on Long Island. The window has the impression of a very well-known daguerreotype of the young Walt Whitman in carpenter's garb which was used for the first edition of "Leaves of Grass."

I added a little texture to my photo...

Our thoughts go out to the Haitian people and the devastating earthquake that hit their country yesterday. Help is on the way according to President Obama.

Very nice, Mary. Whitman's poems are still loved and read.

Oh, that is beautiful! I love Whitman. One of the great American romantics.

Interesting juxtaposition of the two images of Whitman! Great shot for a window theme!

Belgium has sent already doctors and medical material, tents etc yesterday to Haiti, I think all western countries are participating to help these poor people, who are already so poor !

The daguerrotype on the window is a great idea and goes well with the bronze sculpture.

I will not concur on it. I think nice post. Specially the designation attracted me to review the sound story.
