Window Views #16

Photobucket

Welcome again to Window Views. The painting above caught my eye and I thought "Edward Hopper." But of course it wasn't. As a matter of fact it wasn't even signed.

The marvelous shadows enter the room through a near door (which I at first didn't realize) and the other shadow is through a WINDOW in a living rood or bedroom.

My biggest question became "If I went out that door how deep is the drop to the first step?" And then I laughed.

Just so you see what I mean by the painting looking like an Edward Hopper print, here's a Hopper:

READY FOR IT?

Yup! there it is called Rooms by the Sea, 1951 by Edward Hopper

Edward Hopper was an American painter and printmaker best remembered for his eerily realistic depictions of solitude in contemporary American life. While most popularly known for his oil paintings, he was equally proficient as a watercolorist and printmaker in etching. For several years he worked as a commercial artist, but he also continued painting in New York City and Massachusetts.

Now of course it bothers me that I missed the signature. It must be someplace on the print!

Mary, it was probably covered by the matting. Poor picture framing, nothing wrong with you. Love you photo of it, too.

It looks identical to me, except perhaps for some tones in the colors...

Eerily close to a Hopper! I imagine a lot of artists imitated his style (and subjects). I used to see a lot of his work, but have not seen any lately, but then I haven't been in art museums recently.

I love it, and I love the angle you used to make that picture! I had never heard of Hopper before, it's always nice to learn something new.

I hadn't thought about Edward Hopper in decades but I remember being fascinated by his work. I'm glad this bit of serendipity brought him to mind today. Thanks ;--)

It doesn't look like the best print job - the signature was probably cut off on the bottom.
I love it that you can see a lesser-known work by an artist and recognize it.
I could probably do that with old shots of soap opera actors - see a pic and tell you what show they were on back in the 70's and 80's - yes, that's my claim to fame!
LoL
Anyway --- today my window pic @ It's A Blog Eat Blog World is from a cemetery photo shoot I did on Sunday.
Sorry I missed Sepia Scenes this week - I've had a killer headache for a couple days.
Hope all is well with you (oh - and your DOE-WAH-JACK postcard is in the mail!!!)

Delightful post, Mary. I love Hopper. I came to know of his work through a beloved uncle. As a young girl, I felt the loneliness in his work. Even now, his work just tears me up. Beautiful, though. Such an articulate artist.

Hi, listen, I'm pretty new on this blogosphere and Internet thing, so I don't know if there's a sort of "subscription" method that I can use in order to receive notifications of your new entries...? Thing is I enjoy reading your blog a lot and I'd like to be up to date with your posts!
